about out of band management.
With Tekview’s out of band management solution, there’s no surprise call in the middle of the night telling you a server or network device is down and has been for an unknown length of time. Instead, you’ll get a real-time SMS alert straight to your phone as soon as the outage happens.
Then, instead of calling out a costly emergency engineer, or spending time driving to a remote site to fix the issue, all you need to do is send a text message to the power switch commanding a hard reboot.
This not only saves time and costs on accessing remote sites, but also on downtime. Whereas before, a power outage may have brought your business operations to a standstill, Powertxt® acts as a first line of defence.
While many out of band solutions require qualified staff to install and maintain, Powertxt® requires no technical installation. Instead, simply insert your text-only SIM card, plug it into the mains power and plug your device into the socket. You can then send a text to Powertxt® to control your equipment and Powertxt® will reply confirming any action. You’ll also receive real-time notifications to your mobile device in the event of a power failure.
Powertxt® works over the mobile network (GSM). With all network providers switching off 2/3g in the USA, we can provide 4G Powertxt® switches for clients with businesses in these countries. In-band management refers to managing network devices and systems using the same network and communication channels that are used for regular data traffic, such as standard network protocols like HTTP/HTTPS. While a simple and cost-effective maintenance option, in-band management leaves your network vulnerable to both cyber attacks if not property encrypted and outages.
On the other hand, out of band management uses a separate, dedicated channel to manage network devices, often using specialist power ports and switches – like Powertxt®! This type of network management remains functional even if the main network is down or under heavy load for greater reliability.
